Hi there!

My name is Larissa Fraser and I love teaching music! I have been teaching voice, piano and rudiments (theory) since 1995. I enjoy nurturing musical creativity and developing self confidence in my students through voice and piano.

Larissa A. Szepetyk Music Studio is a friendly, safe and student-led online learning environment aimed at creating, improving and enhancing musical skills.

 

Why I teach: 

I believe that when someone is exposed to music or art of any form, their perception of the world changes. Music has such a positive and powerful influence; it transforms thought and molds expression. I love helping students discover their musical talents.
 
Truly, music is the international language of the world and a mind builder. Music lessons benefit students by increasing self confidence, building emotional resilience and creating empathy. Over time, music students develop self discipline, endurance and stamina skills, while learning motivation, compassion and patience.

These skills help create a well rounded individual who is able to take on the world with an open mind and an open heart. 

I strongly believe anyone can sing and play piano.

Throughout the years, I have helped many students who I've seen musically transform after just a few lessons - whether it be pitch-matching or note-playing. When a student is dedicated, persistent and consistent they succeed.
 

What I teach:

I enjoy preparing students for a variety of things:

  • Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) voice, piano and theory examinations
  • Performing Arts High School Auditions
  • Post Secondary Music Auditions
  • High School Musical Auditions
  • Community and Professional Theatre Musical Auditions
  • Opera, Operetta and Choir Auditions
  • Kiwanis Music Festival

Lessons at the online studio run from September to May. Additional lessons can be extended into June for students preparing for an RCM examination.

 

I work with singers age 8 and up and pianists age 7 and up. I have an open door policy where I encourage a parent to attend the lessons online if under the age of 14. The parent can attend fewer lessons once the student is musically comfortable and progressing well. 
 

Teacher Credentials: 

I am a classically trained musician in voice, piano, theory and music history. I have a Bachelor of Music in Performance from the University of Toronto. 

I am a member of the following teaching associations: 

  • Ontario Registered Music Teachers' Association (ORMTA, London branch and affiliate Oshawa & district branch) as a Registered Music Teacher (RMT). 
  • Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) as a Certified Music Teacher.
  • National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) as an active member. 

Lesson Information:

  • Voice: $35.00 for a 1/2 hour lesson
  • Voice: $60.00 for an hour lesson
  • Piano: $30.00 for a 1/2 hour lesson
  • Piano: $55.00 for an hour lesson
  • Rudiments: $35.00 for a 1/2 hour lesson

Lesson durations are subject to availability. Lesson payment is accepted monthly (in advance of the first lesson) via e-bank transfer.

In every lesson for voice and piano I incorporate:

- theory
- repertoire
- ear training
- sight playing / sight singing
- technical exercises (scales, breathing, warm ups etc.)
- rhythm reading
 
 

A little about me:  

  • I have performed solos with many world class musicians and composers, including with the Toronto Operetta Theatre, Canadian Ukrainian Opera Association, Ottawa Valley Music Festival & Orchestra, Summer Opera Lyric Theatre, Opera in Concert and Arts &Letters Club of Toronto.
  • My students have received RCM Gold Medals in voice for Ontario.
  • I was awarded RCM Teacher Certificates of Recognition.
  • As a music educator, I am continuously learning through workshops, books and master classes, in order to bring the most updated information to my students.
